THE SOCIETY OF SHAME
Join us on Wednesday, May 17 at 6:00pm for a special event featuring Jane Roper, author of The Society of Shame, in conversation with Lisa Carey, author of The Stolen Child.
Society of Shame is a witty story of a politician's wife who receives unwanted fame for a viral photo of a "feminine hygiene malfunction." The novel is both a satire of social media and internet activism, and a mother-daughter story. With starred reviews in Kirkus and Booklist, Society of Shame is recommended for fans of Lessons in Chemistry.
A graduate of the Iowa Writers' Workshop, Jane Roper is the author of a memoir, Double Time: How I Survived–and Mostly Thrived–Through the First Three Years of Mothering Twins, and a novel, Eden Lake. She currently lives just north of Boston with her husband, songwriter Alastair Moock, and teenage twins.
Lisa Carey received her MFA in Writing from Vermont College. In addition to The Stolen Child, Carey has published The Mermaids Singing, In The Country of the Young, Every Visible Thing, and Love in the Asylum. She currently lives in Portland, Maine with her husband and son.
