FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

 

CAN I USE MY GIFT CERTIFICATE ONLINE? 

Yes, you can! We currently only have physical paper gift certificates (nothing digital yet), but you can use these in-store, over the phone, or on our website. Click here for instructions on using online or over the phone.

 

ARE YOU ACCEPTING USED BOOKS FOR STORE CREDIT RIGHT NOW?

As of 5/14/21, we are taking in used books again. Please click here for more info, as our procedure has changed.

 

IS EVERYTHING ON YOUR WEBSITE IN STOCK AT YOUR STORE?

No. Our website is linked to our primary distributor, meaning any book you see can be ordered (with a few exceptions). If you're looking at a book's detail page, you will see a box with the ADD TO CART button. If we currently have the book in stock, you will see an "on hand" quantity there. If that box says "Not in stock," or any other special order status, that means we have to order it. (But we can get many books in 3-4 business days!)

Please note: our on-hand quantities include books being held for other customers, so if you need it immediately, please call us to be sure there are copies available.

Our non-book items (journals, chocolate, etc.) have different distribution, but you can also see the on-hand quantities of those items on our website. We are working to add more of these items for online shopping availability. 

 

WHAT'S THE CURRENT TURN-AROUND TIME FOR ONLINE ORDERS?

You will get an automated email that your order has been received, and then we will process your order ASAP, usually within 24-48 hours. We'll let you know once we process your order whether it is ready for pick-up or has been ordered. If you are looking to pick something up immediately, and are ordering during our open hours, please call the store at (207) 772-4045. 

 

HOW ARE YOU OPERATING CURBSIDE PICK-UP?

Once we have confirmed that your order is ready, you can come anytime during curbside hours or open hours. (Please check the homepage for current open hours. Social distancing and masks required.) Curbside pick-up is still available during open hours- just call us once you arrive at our front door, and we can bring your order outside. If you do not have a phone once you arrive, please knock on the door then step back a safe distance while we get your name for pick-up. Thank you!

 

DO YOU SHIP?

Yes. Orders will be shipped within one business day of us receiving the book. 

Our standard shipping option is USPS Media Mail which costs $6.00 for the first book plus $1.00 for each additional book. Media Mail delivery typically takes 5-10 business days, but most Maine recipients see items in a day or two. Our expedited shipping option is Fed Ex Ground ($14, plus $2 per additional item). Ground delivery typically takes 2-5 days. For orders over 5 pounds, additional shipping charges may apply. With either option, if we have your email address, you will be emailed a tracking number.

Gift Certificates are shipped USPS First Class. Gift Certificate shipping is free. First Class typically arrives in 2-3 business days.

We are unable to ship internationally at this time.

 

DO YOU HAVE A CUSTOMER REWARDS PROGRAM?

We do! We have a discount program where for every 5 items you purchase, you get a credit for 6% of that purchase. (You don't have to buy 5 items at once, your purchases will accrue, and you will get a credit every time you reach 5 units.) The next time you're in, we'll ask you if you want to use any credit. And if you give us your address and birthday, every year we'll mail you a 25% off birthday coupon, good for 25% off one item. 

 

IF I PLACE AN ORDER ONLINE, DOES THAT PURCHASE LINK TO MY LONGFELLOW BOOKS CUSTOMER ACCOUNT?

No, not directly. Your website user account is not linked to the customer program in our registers. We are working to make this easier when purchasing online, but for now, please tell us in the ORDER COMMENTS field that you are in our customer program, and what name the account is under, and we will credit your account once we ring it through our register system.

 

I HAVE STORE CREDIT ON FILE AT YOUR STORE, HOW DO I USE IT ONLINE?

Just tell us you have store credit on file in the store in the ORDER COMMENTS field of your order, and we will edit your payment info before processing your order. If you have used book credit, same thing, we just need to know the name the credit is under.

 

DO YOU HAVE ANY BOOK CLUBS?

Since the book clubs that used to meet here at the store have independently gone virtual, we don't have any further info from them at this time. Once groups start meeting here again, we will post lists on our website to keep everyone in the know. So stay tuned!
