Born in 1919, in Boston, Richard Scarry's drawing talent led him to study at the Boston Museum School — which, too, was the only school which would accept him. His father delighted in pointing out that in spite of mediocre report cards, and no diploma, he has become one of the world's most read, and most successful children's book authors.
